I went to see the Paul Strand: Photography and film for the 20th century at the V&A museum.
These are some of my favourites of his work but only the ones available on post cards unfortunately.

I love how at first glance you just see a landscape but then as as you look closer you see the horses and the little house in the background. The composition of this image is very creative the horses and the house create a triangle shape and make you look deeper into the photo, then theres lots of land on ones side and water on the other creating a contrast of dark land and light sea across the image…

There is an interesting story behind this image, these five men are brothers and they have just returned from fighting for their country.. Only to find that their father has been kicked to death by those in power.
I could never even imagine how it would feel to go to war and experience so much violence, and to want to protect your family at home. Then to come home to find that your father has been killed by those you were fighting for, and I think Paul Strand captures this well. The only people this men will ever trust again would be the people in this very photograph.

Lastly, I like how well this portrait works with the wooden fence as the background. Its simply but at the same time makes you question where he is and why he’s there.
Found my sixth form work today! Check out my Alice and The Mad Hatters project from 2014/15!
Always look back so you can see how far you’ve come, you might feel like your going nowhere until you remember where you were at!

It’s not your destination that’s important, it’s the journey you take to get there.
The aim of this project was to observe and capture the urban beauty we fail to acknowledge and often take for granted, focusing mainly on composition and concept.
Is there anywhere you pass everyday and think “hey that’s beautiful?” Let me know!
